Indoor Air

As a result of flooding event as well as chronic leaks, numerous commercial and residential buildings become water damaged, making them prime environments for the growth of mycotoxin-producing fungi.  Our research group is currently focusing on determining the toxicological effect of a variety of mycotoxins on human cell lines in addition to developing sensors for monitoring mycotoxin concentrations in indoor air environments.

Through funding from the Lord Foundation of North Carolina, this research effort is integrated with classroom project exercises in introductory environmental engineering courses.
