November 2008: Jennifer Shore joins our group as an MS student. Jennifer will be co-advised by Drs. Gunsch and Deshusses.

November 2008: Sara Morey presents her work at Duke's Entrepeneur Week.

November 2008: Dr. Gunsch participates in the Research Triangle Environmental Health Collaborative to discuss  the research needs and possible health consequences of contaminants in our water supply from the use of pharmaceutical products.

October 2008: Ruoting Pei's paper is accepted for publication in Environmental Engineering Science.

September 2008: The Center for the Environmental Implications of NanoTechnology (CEINT) is awarded to Mark Wiesner (PI) at Duke. Dr. Gunsch will be involved with Theme 3 investigating the ecological impacts of nanomaterials.

August 2008: Christina Arnaout joins our group as an MS student.  She will be studying the ecological impacts of nanomaterials. Christina obtained her BS from the University of Texas.  Hook 'em Horns!!

June 2008: Drs. Gunsch and Schaad are awarded a grant from the Lord Foundation of North Carolina to support student involvement in the WERC design contest.

June 2008: Dr. Gunsch is featured on "Our World", a weekly examination of developments in science, technology, health, medicine, space and the environment broadcasted through Voice of America Internet Radio.  The title of her feature is "Possible New Approach to Purifying Water".

May 2008: Anna Ruth Halberstadt joins our group as an undergraduate Howard Hughes Scholar.  She will be investigating the role of G/C content on conjugation rates in aquatic environments.

May 2008: Sara Morey's work appear in numerous press releases.  Here is a link to the article in the Technology Review.

May 2008: Ruoting Pei, Kaoru Ikuma, Sara Morey and Shuyi Wang present their work at the General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology in Boston.

May 2008: Lee Pearson is awarded the Eric Pas Award. This award is given for the(Most Outstanding Undergraduate Independent Study Project in the Civil and Environmental Eng. Dept. at Duke. Congratulations!

April 2008: Dr. Gunsch receives funding from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center.  This project is in collaboration with Dr. Schuler (University of New Mexico), Entex, CH2M Hill and Hazen and Sawyer.

March 2008: Kaoru Ikuma and Sara Morey present their work at the Institute for Biological Engineering Annual Conference in Chapel Hill, NC.

March 2008: Shuyi Wang is the runner up for the Senol Utku Award (best published pre-doctoral peer-reviewed paper.

March 2008: Dr. Gunsch gives an invited seminar at the University of Nebraska.

January 2008: Dr. Gunsch is featured on MicrobeWorld, an educational broadcast dsseminated to 90 public and commercial radio stations in the US and in more than 100 countries via Armed Forces Radio.  The title of her feature is "Drug Compounds in Wastewater Treatment".

January 2008: Aaron Lee joins our group as a Pratt Fellow.  He will continue his work on the development of bioreactors for biodiesel production from algae. Congratulations Aaron!

December 2007: Shuyi Wang's paper is accepted for publication in Environmental Science and Technology.

October 2007: Dr. Gunsch gives an invited seminar at Clemson University.

September 2007: Drs. Gunsch, Khlystov and Schell are awarded a grant from Duke's NIEHS CCBVP to study human gene expression following a mycotozin expoure event.

August 2007: Kaoru Ikuma joins our group as a PhD student.  She obtained her BS and MS from Virginia Tech.

July 2007: Shuyi presents her work at the AEESP conference at Virginia Tech.  Dr. Gunsch receives a fellowship to attend an NSF workshop at the AEESP conference.

July 2007: Sara Morey joins our lab as a PhD Student.  She graduated from Cornell in May.  Welcome Sara!

June 2007: Drs. Gunsch and Schaad receive funding from the Lord Foundation of North Carolina to support undergraduate research efforts associated with the WERC competition.

June 2007: Drs. Jokerst, Brooke, Gunsch, Khlystov and Fair are awarded funing from the Lord Foundation of North Carolina and the Pratt School of Engineering to expand the coverage of a current sensors course.

May 2007: Ruoting and Shuyi present their lab work at the ASM General Conference in Toronto, Canada.   

May 2007: Annie Chen joins our lab as a Howard Hughes Summer Fellow.  She will be working on identifying bacterial conjugates capable of toluene degradation.

March, 2007: Aaron Lee receives an offer to intern in the Department of Isotope Biogeochemistry at the UFZ-Helmoltz Center of Environmental Research in Leipzig, Germany. Congratulations!!

January 24, 2007: Shuyi Wang passes her qualifying exam. Congratulations!!

November 22, 2006: Savannah Jeanne Gunsch is born. This is Dr. Gunsch's first child.

April 3, 2006: Drs. Stapleton and Gunsch receive funding from the NIEHS Center for Comparative Biology of Vulnerable Populations. They will study the biotransformation of brominated flame retardants in fish and humans.

March 15, 2006: Drs. Gunsch and Khlystov receive funding from the Lord Foundation of North Carolina. They will develop lab modules for undergraduate environmental engineering students to study indoor air contaminants.

August 15, 2005: Shuyi Wang joins our research group as a PhD student from Tsinghua University.

July, 2005: Dr. Gunsch receives a fellowship to attend the CAREER Workshop at the AEESP conference.

June, 2005: Dr. Gunsch receives a fellowship to attend "Nanotechnology, Biotechnolgy and Green Manufacturing fo Creating Sustainable Technologies" Short Course at Northwestern University.

May, 2005: Dr. Gunsch joins the Center for Biomolecular and Tissue Engineering at Duke University.

March, 2005: Dr. Gunsch is selected as one of the Duke University Nominees for the Oak Ridge Associated Universities Faculty Enhancement Award.
