William Gerhard

Billy is a first-year PhD student whose proposed research will examine the role of ballast water as a global transport mechanism for microbes. He plans to investigate the development of alternative ballast water management systems in addition to creating methods for tracking ballast water discharge. In addition to his work at Duke, he is a visiting scholar to the Stewart Lab in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC and serves as a graduate affiliate with the UNC Center for Galapagos Studies.
