Overview

The Gunsch Lab research bridges environmental engineering and molecular biotechnology. Current research projects focus on investigating the impacts of emerging contaminants on biological treatment processes, developing genetic bioaugmentation technologies for improving the bioremediation efficacy of recalcitrant contaminants, studying microbial evolution following exposure to anthropogenic contaminants and developing innovative water treatment technologies for industrial and developing world applications. Our work has been funded by NSF, EPA, NIEHS as well as state funding agencies and private industry.

All of the research in the Gunsch Lab applies advanced molecular biotechnological methods to probe environmental microbial processes.  Specifically, these interests include:
