
Research Scientist
Neil Gottel is a Research Scientist in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He has extensive experience investigating the microbiome in a range of environments including the soil, plants, the gut, and most recently the built environment. His graduate work focused on the use of Bacillus species as biocontrol agents against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus on surfaces commonly used in hospitals. At Duke, he is studying the microbiome of sinks in hospitals, with a focus on controlling colonization by pathogens.
